Ricardo Alfredo Contreras-Cordero was driving north on 2nd Street when his vehicle left the roadway, crashing into multiple buildings and striking a pedestrian on the west sidewalk.
The collision occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, in the 300 block of North Second Street.
The victim, 68-year-old Eusebio Forestier of Harrisburg, was using a mobility scooter at the time. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dauphin County Coroner’s Office on Oct. 7.
Following the crash, Contreras-Cordero was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. After his release, he was formally charged.
Witnesses told authorities he was suicidal and had threatened to take his own life both in person and online, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The Traffic Safety Unit is handling the investigation.
